Wilderness first aid - wfa 2 day course

Our courses are delivered in an outdoor setting focussing on scenarios with simple approaches to wilderness medicine and first aid.

The WFA 2 day course is ideally suited for students of all kinds and abilities. We emphasize hands-on scenarios and practice, so come ready for practical learning outside! You are guaranteed to learn a lot and have a great time!

Skills and techniques according to practice guidelines established by the Wilderness Medical Society as outlined in the Wilderness Medical Society Practice Guidelines.

Our courses focus on teaching students to assess a situation, improvise solutions using available resources in order to stabilize the patient, and then identify the best way to get the patient to definitive medical treatment.

Basic Life Support Skills/Introduction to Trauma
Patient Assessment System (PAS) /Scene Survey

Traumatic Injuries Cont./Environmental/Introduction to medical
Patient Assessment System (PAS) Part 2
Hands-on field exercises/ Two on One Patient Assessment
Stable and Unstable Musculoskeletal Injuries
1:1 Splinting Lab
Wounds Lab/ Includes irrigation, punctured objects and fish hook removal
Wounds, Infections, Burns
Environmental Mini Scenarios (Hypothermia, Heat Problems, Drowning, Toxins, Bites, and Stings,
Anaphylaxis/Allergies)
Lightning Drill
Mini-Medical Scenarios (Gastrointestinal problems, Genitourinary System, Diabetes, Asthma, Heart problems, Stroke)
Hands-on field exercises/ Two on One Patient Assessment : 3 Rotations
Wilderness First Aid Kits and tips and tricks

Sierra Rescue Internationals certification. Valid for 3 years

Recommended to bring on the course

Rain clothes, old clothes you do not mind getting fake blood on, head-torch, paper/pen, rucksack, food, and drink. Prepare for long days outside.

He was excellent at tailoring the course and scenarios to what this company works with. Very hands on, lots of outside time learning by doing. His teaching style is excellent, very structured, fun and dynamic. He is realistic and teaches us how to use what equipment we actually take on tours, rather than expecting us to carry huge first aid kits, he taught us how to improve and use what we have or what nature has. He inspired the company to run their own work shops a few times a year to keep our skills fresh and 'alive'. He teaches well to a group but also has the patient's and skill to explain extra things to individuals if its needed. The courses are also super fun and a good way to get employees together and work as a team. All in all it was awesome and I'm looking forward to the new course. cheers Si your a champ!

What is Wilderness First Aid and Medicine?

Wilderness medicine is different from “front country” medicine because it deals with:

Environmental Extremes
Limited equipment
Improvisation
Communication complications
Transport/evacuation challenges and decisions.

The Sierra Rescue International Wilderness & remote field guide.

Each student that attends our courses receives a field guide that can be kept in first aid kits so it’s available when you need it.

This field guide includes the patient assessment system, basics on evacuation guidelines, and building first aid kits, in addition to some key anatomy and physiology information. The main focus is on recognizing problems by their signs and symptoms, anticipating problems, and possible treatments for these problems.
